Ce 16 juin, Cluster TWEED organisait un webinaire dans le cadre du projet Interreg Cross_HEAT portant sur les réseaux d'énergie thermique transfrontaliers. L'objectif visait à identifier les défis à relever et les facteurs de réussite pour mener de tels projets, à travers les retours d'expériences d'experts et coordinateurs de différents projets européens.
District heating is a fabulous tool for massively decarbonizing thermal needs. The Interreg Cross_HEAT project focuses on an additional feature : cross-border district heating, whose success depends heavily on governance and regulatory alignment. Therefore, gaining experience from operational cross-border projects and learning more about the possible governance models and regulatory specificities of neighboring countries might be particularly helpful. That was the objective of the webinar held on June 16, from 11 to 12.30.
After a brief introduction, Sabine Schimetschek, Head of SEM Calorie-Kehl-Strasbourg, presented the Calorie-Kehl project, a cross-border district heating initiative linking France and Germany. Gilles Bouvard and Margaux Barisien, respectively Director and Project Developer at SPL Territoire d’Innovation, then provided an overview of the Ferney-Geneva Innovation District, a flagship example of sustainable urban development between France and Switzerland.
Next, Max Morel, Head of Strategic Projects at Veolia Belux, shared insights and feedback based on Veolia’s experience in the development and operation of district heating networks. Finally, Geert den Bieman, Project Coordinator at the Municipality of Kerkrade, introduced the Cross_HEAT project and its expected outcomes.
