To meet the urgent demand for protective visors in large quantities, a protective visor kit has been developed by a consortium made up of Belgian companies, HTP Europe, UCB, Grando, Sabert and Manetco, from the maker group, Respira Project , and the sheltered workshop, Trait d'Union. HTP Europe and Grando are members of Plastiwin! The protective visor consists of a polycarbonate headband and a hyper transparent PET visor.
The objective of the project is to locally produce protective visors at reduced costs. To achieve this, the production of the headband by plastic injection has been favored with the manufacture of the visor by automatic cutting. All the players have worked to reduce costs as much as possible, with mold costs covered, raw material being made available free of charge, no development costs and a maximum reduction in production costs. This project has a real humanitarian vocation to help fight the crisis against COVID-19. The first 5,000 units will also be distributed free of charge.
The project was completed very quickly. The first contacts between the various partners were initiated at the beginning of April, and the protective visors will be available from May 12.
They improved the open source design initially 3D printed by:
- Increasing the frontal contact area for better comfort
- Increasing the contact area behind the ears for better comfort
- Spreading the visor slightly so as not to interfere with people who wear glasses, but also so that a minimum of mist comes to be deposited on the visor.
- Closing the upper area to avoid projections from above the visor.
By also adapting the cutout of the visor which has been rounded at the base, so that there are no annoying sharp corners.
Today, the wholesale is carried out by HTP Europe which centralizes the requests, but it remains to organize the local distribution with the help of Manetco, Grando and Respira Project. The consortium is therefore looking for new partners to ensure piecemeal resale. The objective is to promote local businesses and to respect the philosophy of the project, given the efforts of the partners to limit their prices to production costs.
In terms of price, the visors are sold from € 1.95 excluding VAT for large quantities and for humanitarian needs. For the sale by the piece, the consortium asks to sell them maximum at 5.00 € incl.tax / visor kit.
