The ‘Plastics go green and circular 'Challenge is an opportunity for you to contribute to a circular and greener value chain!

Wallonia, supported by the European Union, wishes to encourage start-ups and SMEs to innovate more in the field of the circular economy and plastics. 10 major challenges related to the circular economy in the field of plastics proposed by companies, civil society actors ... will serve as the basis for the call for projects aimed at SMEs and start-ups. The selected companies will benefit from a subsidy of € 15,000 and specialized support.

How does the 'Plastics go green and circular' Challenge take place?

phases

Phase 1: Call for expressions of interest - Identification of challenges

Open today, we are launching a call to identify "challenges" - that is, concrete issues related to the circularity and sustainability of plastic for which there is no solution on the market. These challenges can be proposed by all types of actors (company, non-profit organization, public authorities, inter-municipal, etc.).

The challenges and projects may relate to:

1. One of the following circular economy strategies

  • Optimization of the use of plastic resources in production and substitution by alternatives (e.g. bioplastics), optimization of the use of resources in the production of plastic;
  • Repair, reuse and reconditioning (prolonging the life of products);
  • Recycling of plastic waste.

2. One of the following levers to help achieve strategies

  • Improved design to optimize the use of plastics in products and to facilitate the reuse and recycling of plastic;
  • Improving separate collection to make high quality recycling possible;
  • Intelligent return logistics (traceability, collection points, shared transport, etc.);
  • New business models (mainly combinations of products and services) to facilitate the reuse and recycling of plastic;
  • The use of key technologies that can help make the plastic value chain circular (IOT, blockchain, AI, VR, AR, big data, biotech, ...)
