The Université catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain) is a multisite university at the forefront of innovation and excellence in education and research. The university involves more than 30,000 students and a staff of about 6,000 teachers, researchers and administrative and technical collaborators. UCLouvain is ranked first among Belgian francophone universities. Research is one of UCLouvain’s main activities with €242M in annual research and development investment. It is organised via distinct yet complementary research entities: research institutes, research centres, technology platforms. With 3 science parks, 3 university hospitals and 2 incubators UCLouvain proposes a variety of services to Society.

The Institute of Mechanics, Materials and Civil Engineering (iMMC), in collaboration with the Institute of Condensed Matter and Nanosciences (IMCN), brings together expertise in the development, characterisation, accredited mechanical testing and numerical simulation of new composite materials with a thermosetting or thermoplastic matrix, from a full life cycle perspective. More broadly the IMCN's Bio- and Soft-Matter research division is a recognised expert in polymer science, especially in supramolecular chemistry, polymerisation techniques, self-assembly of (co-)polymers, controlled synthesis of functional polymers, etc. These cutting-edge expertises are based on a wide range of manufacturing and characterisation techniques (thermal, rheological, mechanical, etc.).
