BioenNW Project at a Glance
- The Concept: started in 2011 with the aim of promoting the wider adoption of local bioenergy in North West Europe (NWE), and thereby helping to realise the potential that exists in NWE for biomass to make a substantial contribution to increasing energy security, reducing carbon emissions and creating employment.
- Bioenergy Support Centres: The project supports and promotes the take up of decentralised heat & power schemes at a small scale (<10MW total energy) through the novel integration of anaerobic digestion (AD) and intermediate pyrolysis. Five Bioenergy Support Centres (BSC) have been created in each region as a focal point for the propagation of new bioenergy schemes.
- The Mobile Pyrofab: One of the main outputs of the BioenNW project is the mobile Pyrofab (20kg/h), which is now travelling in four NWE regions for a total of three months of organic residues testing activities. The quality of the resulting bio-oil and biochar will be analysed in order to demonstrate the competitiveness of the mobile Pyrofab as a commercial product.
