The birth of INFOPOLE Cluster TIC
The INFOPOLE Cluster TIC was officially launched on 1st December 2006. It is formed by the merger of INFOPOLE I.S. and ICT Cluster and benefits from the accumulated expertise of its two entities.
It was created in the wake of “Laureate Program”, pulse program, launched in 1993 to stimulate innovation in Belgian companies located in the Province of Namur (B). This program is managed by the Bureau Economique de la Province de Namur (BEP).
The idea of a Infopole has gradually emerged in 1999 over the meetings organized by the partners of the “Laureate Program”, and more particularly within the consultative committee "Innovation en Province de Namur ", an informal network of businesses, institutional organizations and research centers.
The driving force behind the creation of the INFOPOLE Cluster TIC is the existence in the Province of Namur of a Pôle of excellence in computer science gathering around the Computer Institute of the University of Notre Dame de la Paix (FUNDP), a pool of small and large companies engaged in research and development activities in the field of telecommunications, multimedia, software engineering, ... more widely in the computer field.

In addition to training of high-level computer scientist, it generates by the many applications of his research projects, a considerable extra in the establishment of a new networked economy, based on the Information and Communication Technologies.
Moreover, the City of Namur, the capital of the Wallonian Region and important administrative center is characterized by an economic activity especially oriented on tertiary sector, known to be big consumer of Information and Communication Systems.
